Windows Phone 7 Series

Postby Suicidal.Banana » Tue Feb 16, 2010 8:34 pm

Lets discuss it here, i would expect you to have read/heard about it elsewhere, but some quick info here either way:

My look on it;
Im not so sure about it, tbh it looks pretty crappy, and whats up with "the nike designer"? lets make WM7 just like a shoe? Sense beats the UI out of the ballpark anyways, i mean i understand they aimed to please the 'iphone flock' but doing everything with hughe squares doesnt really work. well its a bit hit-area so it works, but its ugly.

I hoped to see more innovations anyway, but its really a fallback from Sense, which we probably wont see on any WM7 device anymore (seeing how its redundant, the OS can handle touch perfectly fine) luckily WM6.5 wont be dropped right away, but im guessing that wont be for long

Btw, this is Windows Phone 7, will we maybe also see a Windows Mobile 7??
Probably just a name change though, don't get your hopes up, i know i wont.

Sorry if my opinion is kinda blurred, im just used to Sense, but lets face it, 'even' the iPhone has a better UI

I think it is a lote more intuitive to use than any version of Windows Mobile. I really like this new interface. It's what I would expect from a 2010 OS. However there's something on that design based on squares I don't like, maybe it's too symetrical but overall I like the interface.

It's good they've redesigned completely the OS from scratch (at least they say so) the only dark point in all this is that there will be no backward compatibility. The actual Windows Mobile software out there will not work on Windows Phone. That means no FPSEce.

If I was at the helm at Microsoft, I'd be focusing on Locus instead of this. The interface for Locus is nicer and the desktop thing is really nice. If/when this becomes a reality, you can dare bet I'll be using it.
Having only seen one small video of WP7, I'll reserve judgement for now. It looks alright, but well... I've seen what they have in the pipeline.

That does look 10 times better, but just judging by the resolution/size of the top bar, isnt this meant for tablets instead? (then maybe with a sim, because it does list 'phone', or do we get screens with higher dpi/res while staying roughly this size? (still it be hard to read that bar))

Edit: oh btw, comments like these on the video?

Seriously guys. This isn't connected with Microsoft in any way. Do a little research online about the author.
This interface takes elements from Linux, Mac, and Windows.

And a little googling found me the designer (i think)
But ye, it does look hawt, M$ should have hired him instead

They new WM7 (or windows phone 7 series) is pretty crappy. No sense? No SPB MS? No multitasking? Wait what? Seriously no multitasking with 512MB of RAM as MINIMUM? Wut? Well looks like I will be moving to android after WM 6.5 cease to exist. HopeFPSEce will be ported (or at least there will be android PS emulator => wont be like this one, this one is greatest program I have seen).

im not overly impressed with WP7 series myself.

I can see what MS have done and it IS good but not enough... yet.

Completely stripping back the GUI but making it still look better then other mobile O/S's is a good start.

No backwards compatibility was expected but still a bit of a kick in the balls.

The way i see this panning out is as follows:

WP7 Series devices will get released but most hardcore users will stick to WM6.5 UNTIL developers get their arses into gear for 7 series.

When 7 series gets a fully flowing marketplace with DECENT applications WM6.5 will die completely.

Well in my opinion the most hardcorers will downgrade their devices to 6.5.x winmos.
And there is 2 possibilities for WM7 series.
1: Huge succes (as iphone, but with nice interface => not only cions with black wallpaper)
2: Everyone will go for iphone/maemo and android, because WM is just bad iphone with totaly no applicatinos to start off.

Wouldnt surprize me at all tbh, in a way M$ dug their grave with this, if this isnt a insta hit, it wont be for the next few years, mainly due to the no backwards compatibility/no apps

They say there's actually some third-parties developing software for it, but time will tell...

no backwards compatibility

Isn't winpho7 based on WinCE 6.0?
