[Q] A question about sound in FPSE (Delay/Off sync)

Postby keem85 » Tue Oct 16, 2012 6:21 am

Update: On page 2 there is a better explanation of the problem

Hi there!

I know -sound- has been a topic in several threads, however I couldn't find any thread about my problem.
It seems that the sound is somewhat clean, but it's weird off-sync!! Like, instead of 4/4 rhythms, it sometimes goes 3/4, 3.5/4, 1/4 and so on. It doesn't quantize the bars. This problem happens on every game I have with reset settings and different settings. Any clue people?

My phone: SGS3 with CM10, Siyah Kernel
Games: FF9, FF7, Lunar Silver Star Story, Castlevania, Crash Bandicoot 3, NFS5

I've also noticed sound is a little off at times in chrono cross and other games. Generally it's not too bad, but it stutters now and then despite having a stable fps limited to 60 and spusync enabled. Like I said, not a major issue but it stops me from enjoying chrono cross's excellent music so much. Ithink one of the latest updates has had mixed effects.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I also find myself unable to enjoy games because of this. Music is an important part of theese classic old games. I bet it will get better with higher performance phones over time.. I don't think my 1.7ghz Galaxy S3 is good enough for PSX emulators

Nope. Same issue here. It actually got worse with pitch on higher frequency sounds aswell as the delay on my first post.. I think this is weird, as the sound was great a month ago. A few versions earlier..

Edit: Maybe it is possible to create an async-audio option that doesn't have to keep track with the game?

Hi. I tried that but it got even worse. Had to put on reduce latency to make it clean again. The real issue here is the timing. The sound doesn't have stutter, but it is very off time. It can't hit the quantize bars. Like if you would stretch the music as you do with pictures. Same effect. Sometimes it's faster than 4/4, and seconds later its slower than 4/4

Tried metal gear solid and having sound issues there too. It was fine a couple of weeks ago but now it stutters regularly. It's as if the music speeds up or slows down due to fps changing, but fps display shows my fps is steady at 60. I don't know how the music could get lag and the gameplay doesn't, but that seems to be the issue. Also in mgs when you switch weapon/item there should be a beep as you cycle between them; this has now turned into a almost silent click sound.

For me it feels like sound emulation has gone downhill the past few weeks, which is disappointing because it was working fine for me before. Hope you guys manage yo fix it.

Sound has been my biggest problem with the emulator.

1st it worked fine. Then it seemed to go out of sync and was noticeable in menus. When changing options the sound would be delayed.
Then the delay got worse and was very noticeable.
Then it worked fine again.
Now the delay is back. I did notice that in 1 of the games(Wing Commander 3) in the cut-scene the video was playing slightly faster than it should be and the sound kept speeding up and slowing down as if trying to get in sync. Inside the game when shooting it took about a second for the sound effect to catch up.
Then with the last 2 fixes I got a new problem when using spusync where the sound stutters and repeats making games unplayable.
This does not happen with spysync off but then I still have the sound delay.
