[PAD] Fake multitouch portrait pad (WVGA and WQVGA)

Postby Cim » Sat Feb 27, 2010 10:25 pm

Here you go guys. This is just a quick workaround for calculated (fake) multitouch for WVGA devices.

V0.1

V0.2

EDIT:
02.03. added version 0.2 with little different layout and increased multitouch areas
added WQVGA version 0.2
You can find VGA and QVGA version included in my skin

Feel free to improve it as you wish.

To install extract archive to your skins directory (e.g. \SD Card\Program Files\FpseCE\SKINS).
You also have to setup multikeys as this:
  • 1 - up+square
  • 2 - right+square
  • 3 - down+square
  • 4 - left+square
  • 5 - up+cross
  • 6 - right+cross
  • 7 - down+cross
  • 8 - left+cross

Currently, there is only 8 multikeys supported so if you need diferent combinations you should switch buttons in skin and map different combinations...

This is sweet. And VGA would be easy to convert for this kind of stuff. (IE-Images only, no ini editing.) WOW, multi-touch on our non-multi-touch phone's with FPSECE!!!! VERY COOL!!!

So, for now since we only have 8 multikeys, until more is added in a future version (likely, hopefully at least), this example is to have multi-touch support on the cursor controls and the square and cross buttons, correct? Or if we wanted to for driving games, we could map all four if just using left and right cursor buttons (since up and down wouldn't really be needed so much (IE-GT1/2) but WOULD want to use all 4 buttons. And the image is already done for all possible combo's right? Other then mapping depending on which 8 combo's you want to use?

Yes, it's nice news for those without hardware buttons and real multitouch. No, just resizing images doesn't give good results. Touch areas are too small in that case and it's too difficult to control the games. I'm currently working on VGA version which would hopefully work better. I have already asked Schtruck if he could add more combinations of the buttons, so I hope he'll implement it. I'm sorry to disapoint you but all combinations are impossible with that layout as there isn't enough room to map upper two buttons+d-pad. Remaining combinations drawn on mask (but currently not used) are right+O, right+^, X+[ ], [ ]+O and O+^. What I ment is if you need, e.g., ^+d-pad you will have to switch it with X or [ ] in ini, then change multikeys and swap graphics of those buttons (this step is not necesarry for it to work, just to be less confusing).

this is a great concept, unfortunately I am unable to make it work. I have unzipped the files to skins directory, have the new pad, and remapped the multikeys, is there something I'm missing?

Looks good, but maybe you could switch o and |_| to have bigger multitouch areas. And reposition squar, its hard to reach. Good work anyway.

@inedesomhlp: in case you haven't received new version yesterday, ask Schtruck and he will send it to you. It's enabled in latest update only.

@KowboyBebop: I haven't done any changes to layout of this one, as I don't have WVGA so I can't test the results. It should work the same way as MorphGear skin.
I think that O is to near to d-pad in this concept so the left+O would overlap with up+right, but I was definitely considering moving that second used button further from the first one. If it works good on VGA maybe I'll adapt it for WVGA too. I don't understand what do you mean by square ([ ]) is too hard to reach? Did you mean triangle (/\) maybe?

I think i get what your saying about not having enough space to map all combinations, but you WOULD be able to at least replace up and down (for driving games) for something like below right?

* 1 - left+triangle
* 2 - right+square
* 3 - right+triangle
* 4 - left+square
* 5 - left+circle
* 6 - right+cross
* 7 - right+circle
* 8 - left+cross

Which if not needing up/down combo's (for driving games so much), you would replace those 4 with left/right ones using triangle and circle combo's?
So you would be using left and right and 4 button's. Or does it not quite work that way with combo's? And not that it's a big deal of course. :) I'm still happy to be able
to use just all cursor's and 2 buttons versus 2 cursor controls and all 4 buttons.

do you own racing theme then? Besides what racing games require you to have 4buttons that are direction controlled? Mosty X is accelerate (only one really needet) and second brake. What more do you want to control?
