Extreme performance difference in fpse versions

Postby PaulHarrisonMamani » Thu Jun 27, 2013 7:51 pm

Hello, i ve created this topic because im having a question using this emulator:

¿why old version of fpse work better than newers?

first, my device is a Xvision tablet with android ice cream sandwich 4.0.4, 512mb ram ddr3, arm8 cpu and gpu i dont know, probably mali400

i ve used last version of fpse (0.11.103) , this ver. is great, in advanced mode have many usefull configurations, game portrait, cheats, etc and the best in my opinion is the use of joystick skins directly from internet.

well, mainly i wonder about performance, i ve used 4 games for testing : Resident evil, Medarot R, Digimon World 2003 and Megaman X5.

all they work good in graphic section, no graphics error, black lines, videos are showed ok and correct.
but perfomance is slow in them even testing every configuration in setup, only medarot r different (in 2D scenes is really slow but in combats 3D is fast)

then yesterday i ve tested a very old version of fpse (0.10.54)

this version work almost perfect!!

speed is great, not even noticeable slowdowns, but being a version as old have some bugs, for example Megaman x5 no show intro videos only goes directly to title scren but is playable, this no occurs in digimon world 3 where all videos are show ok.
in medarot R is frozen at some point but enabling fps limit is fixed, this game freeze too when you win a battle but is fixed enabling " enable 3d graphics fix"

other issues with this ver. is that the configuration of the emulator is frequently deleted then is necessary configure and activate HLE every time i want play, too is necessary configure every new game added to emu.

all these errors do not exist in the new versions of FPSE but using last ver, i can not get very far cause slow gameplay.

I'll keep using the old version but, i congratulate the team developing this emulator because really is the only decent emulating the playstation 1 in a 100$ tablet, epsxe have many slowdowns and psx4droid is better what epsxe but has long been discontinued.

if someone prefer performance more than graphics, use 0.10.54 , but before 0.11 exactly because 0.11 in onward occurs same performance jump.

thanks 4 read.

well, i ve found why this version is more fast what news versions

is because in my version exist a option named "shard overlay draw", when that option is enabled, fixes bad joystick skin corners but too slowdown a lot any game :(

in newers vers. there no exist this option.

hi i900frenchaddict, deactivating every overlay gamepad ups 6-10fps in any game

this fps speed-up works disabling touchscreen gamepad overlay completely.

using other overlay pad does not change the difference between fps
