[Bug] Official Sixaxis digital directions not working

Postby Uddasa » Sat Apr 14, 2012 11:32 am

Hi everyone,

The last version of FPSE, 0.11.16, now supports PS3 pad natively.
It works really well in USB or bluetooth mode, excepted the fact that it's impossible to map the right joystick in both mode.

Is it working for someone?

I have an official Sixaxis pad (and yes, the right joystick works on my PS3).

Thanks!

Re: Official Sixaxis right stick not working

Ok, after some testing I discovered that I don't need to configure the right stick in the options menu to get it to work!
I tried with Tomb Raider 4 and the right stick works fine.
Now I've got another issue (a real one this time ;) ):

The digital pad (in games only) is not working. Explanations :

-when I set the pad to "digital mode" the up/down/left/right buttons works fine,
-when I set it to "Analog mode", only the "left" button works in game (left joystick is working).

All directions can be assigned in the settings menu, they all are detected, but in game only the left button works.

Also, when I reduce FPSE application, I can use the pad to navigate in the Android menu, and here all the directions are working!

Edit : I changed the subject of the topic.

Sorry guys, but I like to reply to myself, to here is another message :

I've been testing this issue a little bit, and in fact the digital pad is working, but not like it should (it's not playable):

So when you are in "digital pad" everything's fine.
But when you select "analog pad", the sticks are working great, and the left digital arrow is working like expected.

I noticed after a few tries that the 3 others directions (up, right and down) are working if you press the button at a specific level.
The Sixaxis pad has "analog" digital buttons (lol) : even the normal buttons are pressure sensitive, and for these 3 it works only at (i'm guessing) half pressure of the button.
Once you found the correct intensity of pressure to apply it acts like a turbo button, because it's difficult to press always at the exact level of intensity.

So I'm supposing that when you activate analog mode for the joysticks, it's also enabled for the up, down and right buttons.

A fix in one of the next versions would be great ;)

Ok, thanks!

Note that it's not a major issue, just a little annoyance, because in PSX games these direction buttons are always assigned to a direction, not like PS3 games where it's often used to change weapons (for exemple) etc.

(I play mostly RPGs so I use the joystick to move the character in the map, and the digital arrows in the menu because really it's faster)
