v0.10 Xperia X1 performance and configuration
Frame rate tests come first, with my config file at the bottom of the first post. TestsAll Tests use the following settings in the fpse.ini file: Frameskip=off (unless otherwise stated) AutoSpeed=off (to see the maximum possible fps) EnableHLE=on ArmCoreV5=on EnableSound=off FullScreen=1 The FPS I list are upper and lower limits during gameplay. I'm not considering the fps during videos or when the game is initially loading. I'll edit the list as I get more results. Over the course of "however long it takes me to pull the finger out and get some testing done", I'll be trying a few different ROMs. Touch-IT LEO 4.0This ROM is based on Windows Mobile 6.5. It's quite unstable and from my first impression, is slowing my phone severely. FFVIIPortraitfield: 39-52battle: 35-40Landscapefield: 30-38battle: 20-23Frameskip causes lag in the field, but makes no improvement to the speed. In battle, it greatly improves the speed. You can get the battles to 50fps with no lag. However, the cursor to select a target disappears, and is replaced by a box, showing part of the battlefield, over the top-left of the status box. Tekken 3Portrait10-12Landscape10-11With frameskip, there is no improvement to performance. Gran Turismo 2Portrait20-22Landscape16-21With frameskip on 3, there is an improvement of speed, with little lag. Anything over 3 and it starts to lag heavily. Castlevania: Symphony of the NightPortrait28-36Landscape19-25With frameskip on 5, this is full speed, with no lag. The only problem is when there's text on-screen, words overlap each other (doesn't happen with 0 frameskip). Metal Gear SolidDid not work. Hangs after "KCE Japan" screen. Stock Sony-Ericsson R3A ROMThis is an official upgrade to the original Xperia ROM. It runs WinMo 6.1, and at the moment my device is pretty quick. I think it would be faster running a cooked 6.1 ROM, as they have a lot of tweaks applied, etc. to increase the performance of the device. Final Fantasy VIIPortraitField: 48-66Battle: Very erratic - normal range: 36-45. Occational slowdown during some spells 26-33LandscapeField: 48-52Battle: 26-40Using frameskipping during battle, makes it difficult to see which character attacks are aimed at, due to a visual glitch. The best way to remedy the slow battle sequences, is to go into the config menu, in-game, and increase the battle speed. Tekken 3Portrait12-15Landscape12-15Runs with slightly higher fps in either orientation than it did on LEO 4.0. It actually seems to be a little faster than the frame counter says (more like 20 fps I'd estimate). I've applied the fix in gamelist.ini, and it seems to make little/no difference. Gran Turismo 2Portrait20-26Landscape20-26These results are the same, regardless of whether I use the gamelist fix or not. I may not be applying the patch correctly, but I don't think that's the case. If I set the frameskip to 2, the fps increases to an average of 30, with little stuttering. Castlevania: Symphony of the NightPortrait46-55Landscape45-50Full speed with frameskip set to 6. There's no stuttering or lag, but dialog remains in the speech bubble for the duration of a conversation, with new lines overlapping old. There are a few graphical bugs, unaffected by frameskip, such as the map not displaying correctly. There's a listing in the gamelist.ini for SotN, but I don't know which fix to apply. Metal Gear SolidPortrait45-50Landscape45-50Those speeds are with frameskip at 7. It doesn't cause any visual issues, as far as I'm aware. Regardless of frameskip, there are some graphical bugs, that you may notice when the camera is close to the characters. This game will only work with SPUsync set to 'on'. It may still hang at points when the screen goes black, for example, after the Konami logo, or between VR missions. Touch-IT Xperience 10.4This ROM is based on Windows Mobile 6.1. It's the most stable ROM I have used besides the official SE ones. It is also, surprisingly quick for being heavily feature-packed. Final Fantasy VIIPortraitField: 45-59Battle: 35-48LandscapeField: 43-52Battle: 33-42Final Fantasy VIIIPortraitField: 38-50Battle: 28-39LandscapeField: 38-50Battle: 26-40If you use frameskip at 5, this runs full speed in either orientation on the field with no stuttering or lag. However, when you have any frameskip in a battle, the character names; health; menus, all disappear. Also, any frameskip over 5, and the world map goes bat-shit crazy (if you'll excuse my language). DriverPortrait30-35Landscape30-35The above values are from having the frameskip set to 5. There is no lag, and the game is very playable. The only problem I found was when trying to use the frameskipping to get to 50fps: The cars start to appear to be teleporting, and that makes cornering a tad difficult. Dragonball GT: Final BoutPortrait30-36Landscape25-33The above values are from having the frameskip set to 4. There is no lag, at this setting but any more than that, and you get some lag. At 9 frameskip, the game runs at a full 50 fps, but it is entirely unplayable. Re: v0.1 Xperia performance
Sweeet Gets me thinking, there's two TG01 testers, does he need another Xperia tester But wow, I didn't actually think the Xperia would get full speed It should also be good news for most recent HTC owners

 Re: v0.1 Xperia performance
Hey Xperia users! Schtruck has kindly provided me with a version of 0.1 to test on the SEX1. I'll start with what I'm running: Final Fantasy VII. I've disabled the frame limiter, to see what the performance is like, and I have to say I'm impressed: An average of 85 fps. However, all is not rosy... I'm having difficulty assigning my hardware keyboard to controls. The reason being that the menu skin disappears when I open the keyboard. I could edit it in fpse.ini, but I don't know the button numbers (I tried using the same numbers as I did in 0.09.6, but apparently they're different in the new version). Also, when I turn it to landscape, I cannot return it to portrait, because again, the menu disappears. This makes it very difficult/impossible to exit the app without soft resetting. If anyone has anything they want to ask, I'll be lingering now and again. I have only tried ffvii so far. When I manage to get the keys correctly assigned, I'm going to try Symphony of the Night. Yes I've tried full screen, but I'm not sure if I prefer that or default. When it's not fullscreen, it doesn't look too bad, because it centers the screen now, rather than being to the left.

 Re: v0.1 Xperia performance
To the left??
Did Schtruck give you the good fpse.ini file or is there a problem specific to the Xperia?
That's not supposed to be on the left (neither on the WQVGA of my omnia or the WVGA of my TG01) but to cover the whole screen...
What would be very interesting would be to test a game that was not full speed on the Omnia but that is full speed on the TG01, a full D game like Tekken 3, gran turismo, driver...

 Re: v0.1 Xperia performance
I've been tinkering with the ini and the menu for a while, and I've figured something out. If you have the keyboard open (and the menu vanishes), you can close the keyboard and tap the screen where the quit button should be. It will make the menu reappear in portrait, so you can check on the buttons or whatever. Anyway, I made a list of the number for every key on the keyboard. The list is saved as a .txt file and attached at the bottom of this post. The sound is still choppy as hell, and lowers the fps a bit. The DirectX gfx driver doesn't work (at least I can't get it to), and LFB gives the best result. Playing in full screen, landscape, knocks the fps to about 42-ish (considering the ISO is PAL, it's limited to 50 fps anyway). Like I said before though, using it in portrait, it easily makes full speed. @French v0.1 isn't off to the left, it's centered, with black borders on each side (when not full screen). I was referring to 0.09.6 being to the left of the screen. I don't have Final Bout or Soul Blade to test, so I'll try Tekken, GT and SotN tomorrow. I'll just go back to messing around with the settings again now.

 Re: v0.1 Xperia performance
with 0.1, I've never tried to remove the speed limit, so I have full speed (50/51 fps for may pal version) but in landscape and during fights, it can decrease down to 38, so the Xperia is (no surprise!) above. Concerning sound, I used to think it would be OK as long as full speed is achieved... Especially once the iso is compressed with pocketIso, it shouldn't be choppy... But strange that you have only 42 fps in landscape full screen, it's close to my Omnia that is just a few fps under (let's say 38 fps in battles, 40/42 for the rest of the game in full screen.) Have you tried to enable and disable the AutoRotate option in the .ini?
