As above. Not sure when this stopped working, but its running the latest version.

Press and hold on a game, click "Compress the Disk" and I get:
"Searching for Games Automatically"
After a few seconds the games re-appear, but the selected game has not compressed.

Tried on multiple games in varying file formats.

Running Xperia Z1 Compact, Android 5.1.1 stock with FPse version 0.11.174.

If you compressed files are on external sdcard

You need to give rights to write to this device since Android 5.1 I think

So take root explorer (no need be rooted) from play store

Then copy a file to your sd with root explorer then a windows will ask you to activate this right.

After this all your app including fpse will have access to sdcard in write mode.

This gave me the right menus etc, but it didn't fix the problem.

What did work, however (thanks to your input about read/write issues on the sd card), was:-
1) Plugging the SD card into a PC via a card reader (NOT my phone)
2) Moving all the games to sd:/Android/data/com.emulator.fpse/files
3) Compressing the games
4) Moving them out into my preferred directory
