file compression revisited

I see the option to compress games from inside the new menu (tile, or list, menu). And, I've seen the video to compress games using ImpalerPSX.

I believe once upon a time Schtruck was going to support file compression. The list of officially supported files include .bz files (but not the expected bz2, which would be the more 'normal' compressed file type). Also, what about Pocket ISO?

  • Is Pocket ISO supported for Android?
If not, please remove it from the FAQ - the FAQ lists Pocket ISO as a suppoted tool for Android. I spent a couple hours trying to use it today. I won't go into details here - it works ... sorta. But ... ultimately I think it should NOT be used for Android, and reference to it should be removed from the FAQ, and the main web page should be updated to make it cealr that Pocket ISO is for FPseCE.
  • Are ANY type of compressed files supported? What about .bz? I created a .bz2 compressed file, and FPse didn't even list it as a game I could try to play.
  • will compressed file be supported?
  • is there any type of performance penalty for using a .pbp file?

FPse compress games to pbp format. POcketISO was done to compress to .Z and .ZNX , and was good because on windows mobile we were able to run mp3 audio tracks very well. now on android it's doable but more difficult. i should mind on it

what about file compression? having fpse read .zip or .rar (or other) files? would that hurt performance too much, having it read the compressed file?

as you know PSX cd take much place once uncompressed. and .ZIP .RAR and .7Z compression algorythm have no possibility to uncompress file partially or sequentially, uncompressing process is just in one time. Possible if ROM are small like N64 rom or SNES rom, but doing this for CD is not possible or you'll wait 2-3 minutes to wait the uncompressing process is finished...

That why .php .Z are compressing format that let you uncompress sequentially...

Thanks schtruck, that makes sense.

What about the .bz format?

Also I recommend the faq be updated. It says we can use pocket iso for Android.

The fpse menu has always been very difficult. Yes, I think menu improvements will be great. I will have to see the new menu, I cannot imagine it from your description.
