Any way to hide android system buttons while playing?

Hi!
Is there any way to hide the Android on-screen system buttons (You know, back, home, running apps..) or at least make them smaller when playing a game?
Something like Mupen64 does by default (It only shows small dots instead of the icons, so much less screen is lost)
I've tried the "Special Screen option" but when i check that option it doesnt seem to save it, because when I get back to the menu, it is disabled again...
I'm using a Moto G with 4.2
