RPG recommendation

Hi all,

I'm looking to play a good RPG on my Galaxy Note using FPSE and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to recommend one?

The main things I'm looking for are:

* High compatibility
* Works well with overlay pad (as I won't be using a controller)
* Has aged well (because I'm looking to play one I haven't played before so nostalgic appeal won't have any sway with me)
* Is just a generally all round awesome game!

Any help picking a game would be really appreciated. So far I'm looking at the following:

Final Fantasy 7, Grandia, Star Ocean: Second Story, Suikoden II, Vagrant Story, Xenogear,

Thanks,
Sanspoof

Luckily for you, unlike fps and platform games, rps tend to play well on a touchscreen. Should all have high compatibility in normal software mode (opengl mode is a different story though), so no worries there.

As for which game, i highly recommend ff7, 8, 9 and chrono cross. Vagrant story is very good and grandia is also pretty good. Thats all the games that i've played so i can't really comment on the others. I know that xenogears is very highly spoken off, but seems a wee bit too much japanese anime for me in that. There's really no shortage of rpgs on the ps1 so just look up youtube or google some top 10 ps rpgs etc.

Xenogears is very hard to play without a ps3 controller, since you have to use the trigger buttons for camera movement.

Final Fantasy Tactics works really well. Only some graphical errors but nothing new from any other emulator I've used.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! Keep 'em coming :)

Other than what's been stated, has anyone played any of these games on FPSE with no controller? For me the issue is that if I'm going to have to hold down more than a direction and action button at a time I might struggle :)

Also, what with RPGs demanding a greater investment of time than some other genres, I'm worried about getting 20-30+ hours in only to find some compatibility issue renders the game un-finishable.

Thanks for the heads up. That one was quite high up my list but even with the option to move the buttons on the overlay pad anywhere on the screen I've found that trigger buttons can be a bit of a pain to use as they are often used in conjunction with other buttons (Crash Team Racing for example). I think I'll have to cross Xenogears off my list.

Thank you but unfortunately my mobile gaming is done on a packed train during my commute.

I'm hoping that this bad boy gets funded: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/170 ... controller. That way the pad will attach to my Note (which is the example he gives in the pitch) which would be awesome! As soon as there's a pad I can use while standing up then the overlay pad won't be a concern.
