Issues.... bought this last night, nowt but trouble so far

Postby Jim » Fri Aug 24, 2012 1:41 pm

Afternoon all!

I bought this software on Google Play last night, primarily for 3 games.
Since then, I have been faffing and having multiple problems.

Games I want to run:-
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy 7

Hardware I want to run them on:-
Ainol Aurora 2
Dual Core Cortex-A9 Amlogic8726-M6 1.32GHz
Dual Core GPU Maili 400
1024*600 IPS panel

OK.... so, in a nutshell I can't get anything to work 100%. SF3 is nearly there, but still a bit glitchy with the sound.

I have tried multiple versions of the software and having tried hundreds of combinations of settings (before hitting, misc-save, misc-apply, quit-restart to test) I came to the conclusion that something was unsucessful.
So I had a dig around and was intending to manually set the options in the fpse.ini and the individual ini files created for each rom (I have had a fairly good read round the forum and had a few things I wanted to try)....

Before doing this, I looked at the fpse log file, it seems it is having issues reading/loading it.

Even after totally wiping my device, flashing new firmware and just putting the app on it's own - same issue.

Please can someone advise? I have spent hours trying to get this thing to work and haven't been able to get it to play a game (which is it's intended purpose) and am starting to regret buying it.

I have a collection of BIOS files (11 of them) and trying to use the SCPH1001.BIN as recommended in the accompanying documentation.

versions tried:-
0.10.63
0.11.18
0.11.28
0.11.29 (latest)

Any help would be very welcome!

log file to follow.....

I've read your.post a few times but I can't figure out what problem you're having, so games not boot? Are settings not being saved? If games boot where do they crash?

Agreed, what is the exact problem(s)? I like you're detective work! hopefully schtruck will comment...

However, is your ff7 iso known to be good? Does the ISO for it work with epsxe on PC?

Hi all, thanks for the replies! :)

Sorry I didn't list anything specific, I didn't think I should yet, as the issue seems to be linked to the fact that the configuration files aren't being loaded properly, leading to any testing being pretty inconsistent.
For example, something as simple of removing the on-screen controls - generally, if I set, save, apply, quit and restart, they are back to being on the screen. Similarly, the screen size changes at will.

First issue - sound
With Spusync OFF, some games won't even load, if they do the sound sync is basically a few pops a second (although the BIOS load noise works correctly).
With Spusync ON, the games load, but sound is stuttering - like a split second pause a couple of times a second. This also affects the BIOS load sounds (I do not run fast boot)
Nothing I change seems to help.

I am doing most of the testing with my MGS rom, which I ripped myself and works well in the PC emulator.

Can someone have a look at thier log file to see if the configuration (ini) files load sucessfully on thier device please?

Any advice gratefully recieved! :)

INI_Load(): Error reading configuration file "fpse.ini":

this line mean installation is bad. you have to uninstall and re-install fpse.

OK, tried all kind of things and have completely wiped the tablet, put clean a bare ICS ROM on, installed thesoftware (from Play Store) and I am no longer getting the error message about reading/loading the config files.

However, the sounds stuttering is still the same as decribed above.

is the stuttering still happening in bios as well?

have you tried both opengl and softgpu? do you have the same issue with opengl? when you test, watch you fps to see if they are staying contant - constand fps should = constand sound quality, inconsistent fps = inconsistent sound quality.

in software mode, check 'force monocore' and see if the sound quality improves.

Yes, this affects the BIOS load sounds. I have tried different Android governers too, makes no difference (sound works perfectly with all other apps)
This is SoftGpu, FPS is 59/60/61 when this is happening.

When I load OpenGL (downloaded the plugin from the link in your profile), it barfs (although - it didn't used to do this) and I have to clear app data and re-connect to the internet for authenticating FPse again.
When I load OpenGL (downloaded the plugin from t'interweb it loads, once I have re-saved BIOS preference etc etc. Sound still duff, but FPS inconsistent (seems to be either approx 10fps, or 60fps - doesn't seem to have much relevance to the complexity of the cutscene/loadscenes)

Forcing single core makes no noticable difference.

I think it must be something to do with the implementation of the sound chipset drivers not being compatible with the way the emulator wants to work.

Maybe, but I think sunbathing else is going on situ the new version. A couple purple have complained of sound issues, always on screen filtering in softGPU with'force mono core' unchecked ... And I thought there was a third one...

I checked the change log. 'Fixed Mono sound with SPUSYnC' in 11.30 and there was a mother fix in 11.33. Try turning spusync off. Test a Cooke games if you can.

Thank you for the reminder about the OpenGL download from my post, I'll go fix that. Schtruck has to update the one on the website for that to work.
