Switching from Digital to Analog

I am on the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate
Running on Froyo 2.2

Here is my problem I encountered:
I went into settings > input
and changed the DPad thing from 'digital' to 'analog'
So then I saved the default stuff and whatnot, reset, and started playing again.
The problem, though, is that once I make this change, the buttons no longer work or respond to the game. Like, I press the X and O buttons, for example, but nothing runs. So I close the whole application and reset the Input settings.
Am I doing something wrong?
