Pressing hardware keys drops FPS by half!

Anytime I press a hardware button or Key on my keyboard, FPSE's frame rate goes from 60 to 20 on Tekken 2, less on other games. As soon as I let go of the hardware key, it restores to full speed. Playing with the virtual pad results in no problems with dropping frame rate.

Is this a known/common issue? Is it fixable? Is there an option I am missing?

Also 65% sure this was occuring before I rooted and flashed a custom rom. Will double check with my brother's Epic when I get a chance.

The issue was with a keyboard patch I had installed to fix skipped characters. It increases the key timing.

Only the Speed Demon edition causes problems.
