Sound Problems

I've been all over these forums and the web looking for some possible fixes to some minor problems I'm having.
I use a Motorola Atrix. The issues I'm having don't really make my games unplayable, but as I read these posts about "flawless emulation" and "zero slowdown" I'm trying to figure out why I'm not seeing those things.
When I play FF7 and FF9 I get two things:
1.) Horrible sound during battles and absolutely no sound during FMV sequences.
2.) Massive slow down during battles.
I've tinkered with the settings a bit but just end up putting them back to default when I don't notice any changes.
So, my question, is it my roms? My BIOS? My phone? Just the way things are?
