During disc two at the Gehrich gang hideout: After I defeat a random battle, when the game is changing back to roaming mode it just goes black and stays black (with sound still running in the background). None of the buttons work, though. Is there anyway to change configurations to get around this bug? or is it an internal error?

I have a Samsung galaxy 2, and am running the full and updated version of FPSE.

Load BIOS scph7502.bin save config, restart then activate boost from system. It worked for me. But since then it has done similar after defeating water dragoon lenus, entering the forest of winglies and after the virage in the temple of winglies, but didn't work on those times. I had to back up files extract memcard save, change name and use on espsx1.7.0 and convert back again after next save point. Hope this helps and I hope it gets sorted. Might have to give up on it as its happening a lot now unless it gets fixed.
