It's possible to overlock MSM7200

Postby mastanobu » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:31 pm

I was reading a post by a dev on XDA that says it is possible to overclock devices with the MSM7200 chipset. This is awesome news if we could find a dev that can program this for us. Here is the post:

Some weird clock handling you don't really want to know. Yes it is doable in WiMo, but no2chem (author of nueclock) seems to have disappeared. But the code is quite easy, so any correct C dev for WiMo should be able to reproduce it (if there is some, you can ask more details on IRC).
Concerning safety, as always no warranty blabla (and it's for the whole build even without O/C ). But we don't overvoltage the CPU, so the risks are really little.

This is from a dev helping port Android to the Rhodium and they got it to overclock on Android. A lot of devices run this chipset or similar and would surely get some more FPS for us mid-range users!

Yeah, we talked about it on this forum on 6 or 7 months ago. The guy who did the overclock tool released it on september but then he dissapeared. Nobody knows anything about him. Anyways, the tool actually works, but the phone freezes with ease. And that's if you get it to work. I actually did it with the Xperia and it worked for about 5-20 minutes as much, then it freezes. Some people cannot even start it, if I remember well I think cloudstrife86 from this forum got his Xperia instantly freezed each time he tried. It worked for me one day, then it start freezing each time I start it too. SPB mobile shell was faaar faster, but if the phone keeps freezing just makes it unusable. I'm sure with some optimizing it would work great but with the author disappeared I don't think we're going to see any advance soon.

I got it to work on one of my Touch Pros I had. I had 4 of them and only one of them would successfully overclock with the application. But if we can find a dev with the know how we could get some more FPS!

I did. Each one was defective and AT&T finally swapped mine out after the 4th one and gave me a TP2.
